2017 was a very difficult growing year. Late rains, a bit of late frost, huge swings in temperature, and drying winds combined to keep vineyard managers on their toes. A long brutal heat wave in late August to early September started harvest off with a bang, then cooler temperatures arrived and ripening stopped while the vineyards regrouped. We began harvesting again, and by the time the big fires started on October 8, almost everything was harvested. Winemaking was designed for big color and soft tannins.The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon offers black cherries, chocolate, pine forest and cedarwood notes as well as medium to full-bodied richness. It’s a charming, impeccably made wine that should drink nicely for 10-15 years.Only 985 cases were made.
